In addition to teaching, it seems we’re expected to be human shields,” one teacher says. Principals are hearing about school systems training teachers to use guns, or practicing drills with swarms of police officers and real gunshots. They’re wondering, “Where’s the line between adequate preparation and needlessly putting everyone on edge?” And how, they ask, can they soothe their community when there’s no way to guarantee anyone’s safety? There are more questions than answers, but here’s what we do know about stress and resiliency.
